A statement formed by placing an inequality symbol between two expressions. Solution of an inequality The set of numbers that you can substitute for the variable to make the inequality a true statement. Equivalent Inequalities Inequalities that have the same solution

X < -4 When you use < or > you use an open circle above the number, this denotes that the number is not included in the solution. The line is darkened to show everything included in the solution. X ≤ 11 When you use ≤ or ≥ you use a closed circle above the number, this denotes that the number is included in the solution. The line is darkened to show everything included in the solution.

Solving an inequality is just like solving an equation. Identify your variable. Identify your tails Use inverse operations to undo your tails. Do the math. Bring down your inequality sign

6 Examples x – 5 < 8 y – 7 ≥ -10 + 5 < +5 +7 +7 x < 13 y ≥ -3
y > 7 y – 7 ≥ -10 y ≥ -3
