Letters and Sounds A government programme that we follow.
There are 6 phases. It has a simple lesson plan for each lesson and we can use ‘Phonics Play’ to help us.
6
Phase 1- Early Years Environmental sounds Body percussion
Musical instruments Nursery rhymes Rhyming words Oral blending Games! E.g. cross the river It’s all about listening!
7
Phase 2- Reception At least 19 letters are taught and used first for oral blending and segmenting and then to blend and segment for reading and writing. By the end of phase 2 many children should be able to read some VC e.g. ‘it’ and CVC words e.g. ‘cat’ words and to spell them either using magnetic letters or by writing the letters on paper or on whiteboards. During phase 2 they will be introduced to reading two-syllable words and simple captions. They will also learn to read some high-frequency ‘tricky’ words: I, the, to, go, no, into.
