Life of Muhammad: Pictorial Timeline
Learning Target 7.5 I can trace the origins of Islam and the life and teachings of Muhammad, including Islam’s historical connections to Judaism and Christianity.

AD 570 Muhammad was born in the city of Mecca.

AD Muhammad became an orphan, so he went to live with his uncle. When he became a little older, he worked as a merchant.

AD 610 Muhammad left Mecca because he was unhappy with how things were going there. He went to a cave to pray and received his first message from God.

AD 610 An angel brought Muhammad a message from God. Muhammad was unable to read the message, so the angel read it to him.

AD 613 Muhammad began to tell others about Allah. He told people that they should give themselves to Allah as a way to worship him and that Allah wanted people to do good things.

AD 622 Some people disagreed with Muhammad’s teachings and tried to kill him, so Muhammad and his followers left Mecca and went to Medina to escape.

AD 630 In Medina, Muhammad brought local tribes together and they were able to conquer Mecca. Muhammad then made new laws and rules to help poor people and children.

AD 632 Muhammad became sick and died. By this time, most people living on the Arabian Peninsula followed the new religion of Islam.
