1 Feudalism: The Basics

2 Objective: Given a secondary resource, students will create an illustrated timeline with at least five “boxes” showing the development of feudalism in Europe.

3 Begin by creating a page in your notebook titled Feudalism then use your text or the computer to write definitions for the following vocabulary words related to feudalism.

4 VOCABULARY, first Vikings Noble Lord Manor Vassal Knight Serf Fief
Feudalism Decentralized Feudal Contract Use the text, pp. 308, , and 336, as well as the glossary and/or the computers to create a definition for each of the above in your own words. Record your answers in your I.N. under “Feudalism.”

5 Your task for the following slides is to research how feudalism came to dominate civilization in Europe . You will be using the text to answer questions shown on the following slides. You will write these answers in your I.N. You will then create an illustrated timeline to describe the events you researched. The timeline will count as a project grade. Your timeline needs to include all the elements shown on the following slide: Years that flow chronologically from the earliest date to the most “recent” Illustrations Descriptions Dates for important events or eras

This slide is for background research only. No answer or timeline box is needed. (The Empire that Survived) Begin this new section by returning to what you learned about ancient Rome. Turn to pages 176 and 177 in your text to revisit the fall of the Roman Empire. What does the text say about non-Italian values and Germanic tribes?

11 Question #3 Charlemagne established the Carolingian Empire. Under it, Europe was a mostly peaceable kingdom until it was not. Describe how the Carolingian Empire came to an end. pp
