2nd Grade Ms. Alderson’s Superheroes Week of October 2, 2017 WEEKLY HOMEWORK A Peek at Our Week Reading: Story Structure We will continue to describe the overall structure of the story. We will also use illustrations as well as words to understand the characters, setting, and plot of the story. We will look closer at illustrations and their meaning. Writing Choose a writing prompt from the October calendar (homework binder) Math Practice counting coin combinations using coins from home IXL Math: Money Word Problems We will learn how to solve word problems using dimes, nickels, and pennies. Spelling Choose an activity from the October Speller’s Choice Sheet (homework binder) Practice spelling math vocabulary words: dime, penny, nickel, quarter, dollar, money Writing: Personal Narratives We will continue working on our personal narratives. Great writers revise and edit their small moments before publishing a final piece. Reading Read 20 minutes every day Picture walk a story and tell what is happening before reading the story Raz-kids Draw a picture of what a tree looks like in Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter Science/SS/Health: Seasons We will compare and contrast seasonal changes using evidence of length of day/night using observational data related to how a tree changes over time. Science/Social Studies Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Spelling Pattern Language Skill Mark Your Calendar Vowel Teams oa says o as in the words oat, boat, and coach usually at the beginning or in the middle of a word or syllable. ow says o as in the words crow, below, and flow at the end of a word or syllable. Except for when followed by the letter n as in known, thrown, and grown. oe say o as in the words toe, foe, and doe at the end of a word. Context Clues We will learn how to use sentence level context clues as a clues to the meaning of a word or phrase.
