Three types of grants ERC Starting Independent Researcher Grants (up to Euros [ for PIs moving from a third country to the EU] for a period of up to 5 years) ERC Advanced Investigator Grants (up to E [ for PIs moving from a third country to the EU] for a period of up to 5 years) ERC Synergy Grants (up to Euros for a period of up to 6 years) + Proof of Concept funding (up to Euros for a period of 12 months)

Synergy Grant Designed to foster research at the intellectual frontiers expected that Synergy groups will be interdisciplinary Not a network Minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 PIs (+, as necessary, their teams). One of the PIs designated as the Lead PI Section 1: Scientific proposal (15 pages) Section 2 : Extended synopsis (5 pages), CV (2 pages per PI), track-record (2 pages per PI)

Starting-2012: 4750 proposals submitted (2055 in PE, 1652 in LS, 1030 in SH) 1084 passed to Step 2 (23%), out of which 206 in SH Advanced-2012: 2304 proposals submitted (977 in PE, 772 in LS, 555 in SH) Synergy-2012: 710 proposals submitted 699 eligible (101 in SH) 99 passed to Step 1-B (21 in SH) Average budget requested: 12.5 ME in PE, 11.7 ME in LS, 10.4 ME in SH

Synergy-2012: Next steps Step 1-B: June. Between 20 and 25 proposals should be selected, out of the 99 Step 2 in October (?): interviews of the C-PIs (coordinator-PIs) that passed the Step 1-B Step 3, around November: selection of the ca. 12 to 15 proposals to be granted.
