4 ORDERING INTEGERS The further to the left of zero the smaller the number The further to the right of zero the larger the number. A negative number is always less then a positive number A negative number is always less then zero

5 EXAMPLE Order the numbers from least to greatest -7, 2, -1, 0, -2
Determine which number is the smallest. The further from zero the smaller the number Then work your way up from there -7, -2, -1, 0 , 2

6 Absolute Value The absolute value of a number can be considered as the distance between 0 and that number on the real number line.

7 OPPOSITES Numbers that are the same distance from zero
