QUASI-WAR In June 1798 USA stops trade with France and begins to attack their ships This led to the Quasi-War Undeclared war at sea b/w USA and France In Sept the 2 countries sign the Convention of 1800 Eased tensions and ended the Quasi-War Ended the alliance b/w USA and France too.

Dem-Rep. party liked France and began to write a bunch of trash about Fed. Party Federalists NO LIKE!!! So Federalist party passed 4 laws known as the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798

1. had to wait 14 years before allowed USA citizen 2 and 3 allowed the Prez power to deport w/o trial any alien that seemed dangerous 4th law No one could write anything bad about the President

Written by James Madison and Thomas Jefferson Called the A&S acts unconstitutional and the state had the right to nullify fed. Law STATE RIGHTS!!!!!!!
