 Final Resurrection  Or  Foreshadowing  Of the Future?

 Daniel 12 foretold resurrection…  To eternal life…  At the end of the age  The “historical and creedal view of the church” has been that Daniel foretold the final resurrection at the end of human history.  Incredible, radical changes are taking place, however!  Today, it is common to hear those who once took the creedal, historical view now admit that Daniel 12 predicted the events of AD 70!  This is nothing less than stunning– incredible!

 The importance of our study today cannot be over-emphasized!  My Proposition:  If the prophecy of the resurrection of those “in the dust” of Daniel was indeed a prophecy of the “final resurrection” of I Corinthians 15 and Revelation 20.  Then all futurist eschatologies are falsified!  It is irrefutable and undeniable– as we will demonstrate  Why Is This True?

“When The Power Of The Holy People Has Been Completely Shattered, All These Things Shall Be Fulfilled! (Daniel 12:7) Only one time in history fits this description!

 To help determine the answer to our topic, we need to examine what Daniel predicted:  The Great Tribulation (v. 1)  The resurrection– To eternal life / condemnation (v. 2)  The kingdom of God (v. 3)  The end of the age (v. 4)  The time of prophetic insight / revelation when the meaning of the prophecies of Daniel would be revealed (4, 10)  The time of the rewarding of the dead (13)

 It is indisputably true that the NT writers’ eschatological hope was the (imminent) fulfillment of YHVH’s OT promises made to Israel.  Acts 3  Acts 24, 26, 28  1 Corinthians 15:54-55  1 Peter 1:10-12  Revelation 10:7f; 22:6f  So, the OT predicted the resurrection. The NT writers said their resurrection hope was from the OT. If Daniel 12-which predicted the end time resurrection- was not their end time hope, that would have to be proven.  We will look at some key “final resurrection” NT texts and show that they echo Daniel 12, thus proving that Daniel foretold that “final resurrection.”

7 DANIEL 12 MATTHEW 13 Time Of The End (V. 4) Time Of The End Resurrection (V. 2) Harvest Just and Unjust When The Righteous Would Shine As The Sun Perfect Correspondence!

8 MATTHEW 13 / DANIEL 12 Jesus Said The End Of The Age Would Be When The Righteous Would Shine As The Sun In The Kingdom (MT. 13:43). Jesus Said The End Of The Age Would Be When The Righteous Would Shine As The Sun In The Kingdom (MT. 13:43). Matthew 13:43 Is A Direct Citation Of Daniel 12:3, And The Prediction Of The End Of The Age Harvest / Resurrection. Matthew 13:43 Is A Direct Citation Of Daniel 12:3, And The Prediction Of The End Of The Age Harvest / Resurrection. Therefore, The Righteous Would Shine As The Sun In The Kingdom At The End Of The Age Prophesied By Daniel 12. Therefore, The Righteous Would Shine As The Sun In The Kingdom At The End Of The Age Prophesied By Daniel 12.

9ARGUMENT Matthew 13 Is The “Final” End of the Age Resurrection / Harvest  (OOPS– More Changes!!) Matthew 13 Is The “Final” End of the Age Resurrection / Harvest  (OOPS– More Changes!!) But, the Harvest / Resurrection of Matthew 13 is when Daniel 12 would be fulfilled– I. E. Matthew 13 and Daniel 12 predicted the same end of the age harvest / resurrection. But, the Harvest / Resurrection of Matthew 13 is when Daniel 12 would be fulfilled– I. E. Matthew 13 and Daniel 12 predicted the same end of the age harvest / resurrection. Therefore, The End Of The Age Resurrection Of Daniel 12 is the “Final” End of the Age Resurrection / Harvest Therefore, The End Of The Age Resurrection Of Daniel 12 is the “Final” End of the Age Resurrection / Harvest

MATTHEW 131 CORINTHIANS 15 Time Of The End (end of “this age”- Jesus’ then present age Time Of The End Time Of HarvestTime Of Harvest, i.e. Christ the “first fruit” Gathering Into The Kingdom Gathering Into The Kingdom (V. 50f) Fulfillment Of Israel’s Promises When The Power Of The Holy People Destroyed The End Of “The Law” That Was The Strength Of Sin- Torah!

 1 Corinthians 15 has always been, and is still considered the crux interpretum for a final, end of human history resurrection of dead corpses.  The Creeds and church history agree  Until the advent of the true preterist paradigm, there were few if any dissenters! But…  OOPS– More Radical Changes!!  Jordan  McDurmon  Bull

DANIEL 121 CORINTHIANS 15 Eschatological Hope of Israel Time Of The EndThen Comes The End ResurrectionResurrection = Rev. 20 Everlasting LifeImmortality (Rv. 21:3f) Righteous Shine In The Kingdom Entrance Into The Kingdom- New Creation – Rev. 20 AD 70We Shall Not All Sleep! When Israel’s Power Shattered When “The Law” Terminated (54f) 12

 The correspondence between Daniel and Corinthians is remarkable and perfect!  Those denying the connection have to prove that that Daniel foretold a different resurrection!  1.) A Different “Kind” of “eternal life” resurrection  2.) A Different rewarding of the prophets  3.) A Different end of the age.  4.) A Different kingdom, or “phase” of kingdom.  5.) A Different end time resurrection as the fulfillment of Israel’s end time prophecies.  6.) Prove that AD 70 Was a Shadow of the Real End

 1 Corinthians 15 is the “final” end time resurrection.  Daniel 12: Identical time, identical framework, identical elements foretold by 1 Corinthians 15  Therefore, the resurrection of Daniel 12 is the “final” end time resurrection of 1 Corinthians 15.  What is the Hermeneutic of Distinction?  But, we are not done!

Daniel 12 Revelation 20 Great Tribulation (v. 1)Satan loosed at the end of the millennium Tribulation Those in the books rewardedThose in the books Rewarded Resurrection– The Hope of Israel Resurrection - The Hope of Israel Time of the end Righteous shine in the kingdom (v. 3) Righteous in the New Creation When the power of the holy people (Torah) is shattered– AD 70! Behold, I come quickly! What is the Hermeneutic of Distinction!! 15

 The resurrection of Daniel 12 is clearly the resurrection of (1 Corinthians 15) Revelation 20  Yet, Futurists must divorce these resurrections!  What is the Hermeneutic of Distinction that proves – definitively– that Daniel 12 is not the same resurrection as Revelation 20?  What is the difference between the tribulations ?  What is the difference in the “end of the ages”  What is the difference in the “eternal life” bestowed when the books would be opened? (Mal. 3:16!!)  The elements, time and promises are identical! 16

 Opponents of Covenant Eschatology are claiming preterists have a “wooden” view of Israel’s prophecies– that there is a “1-1” correspondence.  They claim that the NT writers “re-defined” those promises.  This is false: I affirm that the NT writers very often re-defined Israel and her promises!  The question is:  In what way did the NT writers “re- define” Israel and her promises?

 Israel– ethnic Seed –V– The church, Spiritual Seed !  Literal Land –V– Christ our dwelling place!  Literal City –V– Heavenly City  Literal Temple –V– Spiritual Temple  Literal, ethnic Priesthood –V– Spiritual Priesthood  Literal, physical sacrifices –V– Spiritual Sacrifices  Literal, physical circumcision –V– Spiritual  So, the NT writers re-defined Israel’s physical realities as the spiritual realities in Christ!  But, there is something very strange here….

 The OT prophecies of resurrection are patently not about the raising of literal corpses, but, the return from “sin- death”– i.e. Spiritual Resurrection from the very beginning (Hosea 5-6; 13:1-3, 14).  But, what do these former preterists now do?  They re-define that “spiritual resurrection” and claim that the NT writers turned those prophecies of spiritual resurrection into prophecies of the raising of dead human corpses! Or, they claim the OT foretold “casket resurrection” -- creating the very “1-1” prophecy that they condemn preterists for!!  They “re-define” the end of Israel’s age as the end of time!  They go from the spiritual to the physical– in violation of the manner in which the NT writers otherwise re-define Israel’s physical realities– Spiritually!  Talk about Inconsistent and Arbitrary!

 To escape the incredible significance of Daniel 12, many are claiming that AD 70 was a type / foreshadowing of the “Real” end.  Beale  Riddlebarger  Gentry  Jordan  McDurmon  Etc. Etc. Etc.  More on this later!

 It is increasingly argued that Daniel 12 Does Predict AD 70, But, That A.D 70 Was Only A Type Of The True, the Real, Resurrection…A.D 70 Was Only A Type  But, Paul said the resurrection would fulfilled Isaiah / Hosea / Daniel! If those texts did not predict what Paul predicted, then Paul’s resurrection could not fulfill those prophecies!  Luke 21:22– These Be The Days Of Vengeance When All Things Fulfilled– Not Typified!  Matthew 24:21– Worst Tribulation Ever.  Not One N.T. Writer Ever Says AD 70 Would Be Typological!  Christ Is The Reality– Not The Shadow  1 Corinthians 10:11– They Were Types Of Us– Not, “We Are Types Of Something Else Coming!”  The “Shadow” Argument Means That A Spiritual Resurrection Typified A Physical Resurrection! This Violates The Type / Anti-type System, That Always Goes From Physical To Spiritual!

 I stated at the beginning that if Daniel 12 foretold the “final” resurrection then futurism is totally falsified.  Why is this true? The resurrection of Daniel 12 is the Resurrection of Matthew 13; 1 Corinthians 15; Revelation 11 and Revelation 20– the “Final” Resurrection Because As Demonstrated, The resurrection of Daniel 12 is the Resurrection of Matthew 13; 1 Corinthians 15; Revelation 11 and Revelation 20– the “Final” Resurrection  And, Daniel 12 emphatically posits resurrection at the end of Israel’s covenant age : “When the power of the holy people is completely shattered, all (not some) of these things will be fulfilled” (v. 7).  This falsifies all futurist eschatologies!

23 Summary on Daniel 12: The Argument The resurrection of Daniel 12 is the resurrection of Matthew 13; 1 Corinthians 15; Revelation 11 and Revelation 20. The resurrection of Daniel 12 is the resurrection of Matthew 13; 1 Corinthians 15; Revelation 11 and Revelation 20. The resurrection of Daniel 12 Would Be Fulfilled at the end of Israel’s Old Covenant age-- When OT Israel Was Completely Destroyed (DN. 12:7) The resurrection of Daniel 12 Would Be Fulfilled at the end of Israel’s Old Covenant age-- When OT Israel Was Completely Destroyed (DN. 12:7) Therefore, The resurrection of Matthew 13; 1 Corinthians 15; Revelation 11 and Revelation 20– the “Final” Resurrection-- Would Be (Was) at the end of Israel’s Old Covenant age- When OT Israel Was Completely Destroyed. Therefore, The resurrection of Matthew 13; 1 Corinthians 15; Revelation 11 and Revelation 20– the “Final” Resurrection-- Would Be (Was) at the end of Israel’s Old Covenant age- When OT Israel Was Completely Destroyed.
