2 ID Cards Membership cards are printed, children select one as they sign up. Use Avery Template 5392/Badge Insert to print-out cards. Summer Reading Program 2018 ______________________________________ is a member of the Reading Takes You Everywhere Club Favorite Book Dream Vacation ______________________ _______________________ Kids fill out the cards while staff signs them up, explain the program, issue registrations prizes. 5 Passports State flower – Draw a picture of the flower, name it, identify the state. Pick a country, write the mode of transportation. Put the flag sticker in your passport. Choose a food from another country. Craft – Make a papel picado & get a Mexico sticker for your passport. Choose a country you would like to travel to, find the flag sticker, identify the continent and a place to visit in that country. 6 Passports Children fill out passports during programs; looking for books; or participating in activities. Use stamps for different activities, such as Read, animal footprint stamps for animal programs, etc. Date stamp the page when activity is completed. 7 Hula Dancers Program or watch a video of hula dancing.

8 Baggy Books Supplies: Zip top quart size baggies, pictures from picture books, magazines or family pictures. Directions: Take 5-10 baggies, staple the bottoms together and cover with colored tape. Place pictures inside the baggies to create a book. Children can tell a story, rearrange the pictures and tell a different story. Words and sentences can be added. 9 You’ve Seen The Movie, Now Read The Book!

10 Plan a Trip Contact local travel agencies, AAA, etc., for brochures, posters and trip ideas. Use posters for displays or cut up travel magazines for story ideas. 12 Juice Box Boats Make a sail with paper, a straw or wooden skewer Ex: Flags of countries, superheroes or book characters. Cut-out 1 side of the juice box. Place flag in clay in the bottom of the boat. Test which boats float the best! Reading Takes You Everywhere | Summer 2018 November 3, 2017

13 Aboriginal Bark Painting
Tear up paper bags, crumple up, lay flat, glue cut-outs of lizards, kangaroos, footprints, paw prints, etc. onto paper. Dip pencil into paint and paint the cut- outs. Use dots of paint to decorate the cut-outs. Reading Takes You Everywhere | Summer 2018 November 3, 2017

15 Desert Sand Dune Place salt into wide mouthed jar or use muffin tins. Grind/stir colored sidewalk chalk in the salt until desired color is achieved. Layer colors into jars, use stir sticks or toothpicks to create patterns on the side of the jar. Fill jar to top, glue lid in place. Ask for donations of clean jars; use baby food jars.
