EGYPTIAN-FINNISH EDUCATION COOPERATION

Five Finnish universities appeared in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).
The universities listed in the ranking were: Aalto University, University of Eastern Finland, University of Helsinki, University of Oulu University of Turku.

ARWU uses the following indicators to rank universities:
The number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals The number of highly cited researchers The number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science The number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index Per capita performance

Official Egyptian-Finnish Education Cooperation
It is covered by an agreement signed between the two countries since 1983. This covers only Egyptian government education centers and universities for training and research. Scholarships are provided annually ranging from 3 to 9 months in Finland. No degree awarded from Finland.

The Finnish Counterpart
Bilateral Government of Egypt scholarships for Finnish program-graduates and researchers in Egypt is administrated by CIMO (Finnish National Agency for Education EDUFI). Three Egyptian scholars every year.

Academic Cooperation between Egyptian and Finnish Universities
University of Helsinki - Cairo University: There was a bilateral cooperation agreement covering a student and professor exchange, as well as joint research programmes. The program was suspended as not many Egyptian students were not aware about it to benefit and use it.

Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) - Misr International University (MIU) offered a double degree in the field of computer science, plus joint workshops and exchange of professors and students. The program was suspended after 2011 Revolution. There are attempts now to revive it.

The Finnish Institute in the Middle East (FIME)
It carries out research and arranges courses on Middle Eastern languages, cultures and religions in Egypt. The Institute aims to promote cooperation between universities and research centers in Finland and in the Arab countries. The Institute’s area of operation covers the whole Arabic-speaking world and the surrounding areas with historical and cultural ties to it. Academic workshops, courses and seminars are the Institute's main activities. It is active in Egypt since 1999.

Cairo Conservatoire and Sibelius Academy cooperation
It started in 2010 with exchanging professors and some joint workshops for students. After 2011, cooperation was frozen.
