The Ohio Standards in Technology provides teachers with a set of clear, rigorous expectations for what all students should know and be able to do.
No Child Left Behind – by the 8th grade – Technology skills will be assessed
Question is how will these be assessed? No one seems to know.
Educational Testing Service has developed a test. . .what will this mean?
*The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) known as No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requires all students to become technology literate by the end of the 8th grade. This means that basic or introductory technology concepts are addressed by benchmarks and indicators in the K-2, 3-5, and 6-8 grade bands in order to achieve the NCLB goal.
Computer and Multimedia Literacy is the ability to appropriately use hardware, software applications, multimedia tools, and other electronic technology. It includes the usage of technology tools for productivity and communication. Computer and multimedia literacy forms the foundation for advanced study in computer science.
Information Literacy is the acquisition, interpretation, and dissemination of information. Information literacy focuses on effective methods for locating, evaluating, using, and generating information. Technology-based information literacy skills encompass the utilization of the Internet and other electronic information resources for research and knowledge building.
Technological Literacy addresses the abilities needed to participate in a technological world. It is the intersection of mathematics, science, and technology. It encompasses unique knowledge, devices, and capabilities used to solve problems. It identifies career connections between technology and the world of work. Technological literacy includes technology education and encompasses pre-engineering concepts.

4. Standard 1 Nature of Technology
Students develop an understanding of technology, its characteristics, scope, core concepts, and relationships between technologies and other fields.

5. Standard 2 Technology and Society Interaction
Students recognize interactions among society, the environment and technology, and understanding technology’s relationship with history.
Consideration of these
concepts forms a
foundation for engaging
in responsible and ethical
use of technology.

6. Standard 3 Technology for Productivity Applications
Students learn the
operations of
technology
through the usage of
technology and
productivity tools.
Use of computer and multimedia resources to support their learning
Understanding terminology, communicate technically and select the appropriate technology tool basked on the need.
Collaborate, plan, and produce sample product to enhance their learning.
Solve problems – investigating, troubleshooting, and experimenting using technical resources.

Students use an array of

Students apply a number of problem-solving strategies demonstrating the nature of design, the role of engineering and the role of assessment.

Students understand how the physical, informational, and bio-related technological systems of the designed world are

11. The 3rd Grade student should be able to:
Standard 1:
Identify technology in the classroom & discuss its use.
Demonstrate the use of technology in the classroom
Describe different properties of material, color, weight, mass, hardness, temperature,
List process examples from each of the 7 technological systems.
Standard 2:
Discuss how technology may have positive & negative consequences.
Describe how technology affects the environment in a positive & negative ways.
Know how the district AUP describes the rules for using

Cite examples of how tools & machines extend human capabilities.
Describe what is needed to cause a technology to develop further in each of the technological systems.
Standard 2:
Explore & compare common uses of technology in daily life & the advantages & disadvantages those uses provide.
Discuss basic issues related to responsible uses of technology information, describe personal consequences of inappropriate use.
Explain the role of Ohio inventors in the social & economic development of society, Ohio Links
Discuss technology ownership rights including the creator is the owner, & that users must purchase the rights to use. Copyright for Kids
Discuss policies in the district AUP, understand that the AUP describes the rules for use.

Discuss how new technologies have resulted from demands, values, & interests.
Explain how new technology can be used to repair damage caused by natural disasters.
Distinguish original work from work that is plagiarized.
Employ the use of measuring instruments to collect data.
Standard 3:
Use vocabulary related to computer & multimedia technology systems.

20. The 6th Grade student should be able to:
Present independent research findings in a multimedia format.
Demonstrate proper keyboarding techniques, assess accuracy.
Use content specific tools, software, & simulations to support learning & research.
Standard 4:
Define principles of design (color, contrast, repetition, alignment, proximity), use to create print, multimedia, and Web communications.
Create & publish information in a printed form & in an electronic form.
Use functions including: receiving, sending, replying, adding of hyperlink, organize new folders, adding attachments.
Investigate assigned topics using online learning resources, video conferencing, distance learning.

Check copyright & publication dates to determine currency of Information.
Recognize that finding & using more than 1 source can produce a better product.
