2 … Purpose To brief the Portfolio Committee on Tourism on the three agreements signed between South Africa and Ghana, South Africa and Zimbabwe, South Africa and Lesotho. 2

3 … Objective of Agreements
The objective of all the agreements is to foster cooperation between the two parties in the development and promotion of tourism for the mutual benefit of both parties and their respective people. 3

Exchange of tourism information Marketing and promotion Cooperation between Destination Management Organisations Investment promotion Capacity building - Facilitation of training Study tours Cross border tourist movements for the Lesotho and Zimbabwe 5

6 … Implementation Plan The next step is for the parties in each of the countries to discuss and agree on the implementation plans aligned to the signed agreements. As part of the proposed implementation plan, South Africa has invited all three countries to the 2012 NTCE, which will take place in East London from the 28 – 30 September. 6

7 … Implementation Plan (cont.)
Joint Technical Committees shall be established between the two countries so as to monitor the implementation process and report to the country concerned via the diplomatic channels. 7

8 … Outcomes Once the implementation Plans are signed, the countries will reciprocate on the identified and prioritised areas of cooperation. It is requested that the Portfolio Committee note the three agreements signed with the respective countries. 8

9 Other Agreements Negotiated and Signed in Africa
Agreements have been signed with the following countries: Algeria, Egypt, Gabon, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tunisia, Israel and Iran. In negotiations with the following countries with an intention to sign agreements: Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Seychelles.
