2 Content Why? -Existing services
What? -A navigation based on concept-level hierarchy to locate to target classes How? -Making senses of ontology classes via WordNet How good? -Evaluation Design

3 Existing services Search with keywords. Snippets related to queries.
Filter with class/property or vocabularies. Sort with query relatedness and importance in the data graph and list with multiple flipping pages.

4 Existing services Watson - able to search classes via keywords
No further functions Snippets are poor

5 Existing services Swoogle - Not as good as its name.
Sinppets are poor. No further functions

6 Existing services Sindice Have a rich-featured filter
Snippets are a little poor.

7 Existing services Falcon concept search Filter with vocabularies
Rich query-related snippets

8 Why ? All of them rely on a good sorting and simple filters to locate to desired ontology classes. Imagine a Semantic Web developer is willing to publishing data about cars. He needs related classes to annotate various entities.

9 Why? search car automobile vehicle motocar SUV racecar sedan roadster

10 What ? Nouns in WordNet constitute a connected unified taxonomy having hyponymy relations. This taxonomy is human understandable. It is based on the psychological model of human. If a developer wants to find related ontology classes about vehicles or cars...

11 What ? . . . . . . car car, motocar, automobile
search car, motocar, automobile a motor vehicle with four wheels; usually propelled by an internal combustion engine. subconcepts: bus, roadster, cruiser, jeep, sedan, ... Search with keywords railcar, railway car, railroad car a wheeled vehicle adapted to the rails of railroad. subconcepts: van, mail car, cabin car, ... cable car, car a conveyance for passengers or freight on a cable railway. is a compartment. Search with a specified concept elevator car, car where passengers ride up and down. is a compartment.

12 Sort with relateness to user intended concept and relateness to query.
Search with a concept search in the results search (S)car, motocar X Sort with relateness to user intended concept and relateness to query. racing car car, auto, automobile, machine, motorcar a motor vehicle with four wheels; usually propelled by an internal combustion engine. Has parts: Is a: related terms: All (100+) is a auto, motocar Namespace: XXX Current (14) racer gasoline engine, petrol engine race car, etc (144) accelerator, accelerator pedal is a race car bus, etc (123) bus vehicle Jeep, etc (113) is a bus rental, renting sedan, etc (113) Jeep roadmap is a jeep passenger, rider sports car, etc (83) < 1 2 3 ...... 13 >

13 Concept Navigation search in the results search racing car All (144)
(S)car, automobile (S)race car, racer, etc X racing car car, auto, automobile, machine, motorcar a motor vehicle with four wheels; usually propelled by an internal combustion engine. Has parts: Is a: related terms: All (144) is a auto, motocar Namespace: XXX Current (108) racer gasoline engine, petrol engine stock car, etc (24) accelerator, accelerator pedal is a race car finisher, etc (12) codemaster vehicle is a finisher rental, renting tuner roadmap is a stock car passenger, rider < 1 2 3 ...... 13 >

14 Search with keywords search in the results search car
(K)car X car Related concepts: car, motocar, automobile All (100+) is a auto, motocar Namespace: XXX railcar, railway car, railroad car Current (14) racer railcar, railway car, railroad car racer, race car(144) is a race car cable car, car jeep (123) elevator car, car bus sports car (123) is a bus elevator car (123) Jeep is a Jeep bus car (123) < 1 2 3 ...... 13 >

15 How ? Make sense of ontology classes via WordNet, a lexical database.
Synsets and hyponymy relations constitute a large unified taxonomy, in the perspective of human psychological model. Offline mapping various ontology classes to WordNet synsets using various matchers and homomorphism constraint.

16 How ? When an ontology class C is mapped to a synset S, it means in human conceptual understanding, C is one kind of S. It is best when there is no hyponym synset S' of S that C is also one kind of S'.

17 How ? class hierarchy blocking & matching synset hyponymy graph SHG

18 How ? SHG block i Virtual Document Matcher
class hierarchy block i Combination of multiple matchers SHG block i Virtual Document Matcher Terminogical Matcher set of class to synset mappings

19 How ? set of class to synset mappings
Select reliable mappings with combined method based on homomorphism constraint set of reliable class to synset mappings

20 How good? ---Evaluation Design
Compare it to traditional approaches to search ontology classes. It's best when these approaches are based on the same data indexes. Searching tasks for participants to finish: Suppose you are a SW developer. You want to retrieve related ontology classes about a topic(concept). Use various search services to finish the task. Score and give feedbacks.

21 How good? Users can also give feedbacks when using the system. Report relateless searching results in the result list which is relateless to the current concept.

22 Thank you.
