Common Core Standards Application
By: Ashley Fields EDIT 2000

How it works: My product is an application that will be used on iPads in classrooms K-5. There will be 6 major categories within this application. 1. Reading 2. Writing 3. Math 4. Science 5. History 6. Gaming

The Reading Rabbit Reading Comprehension: Students will be read a story from the application. To keep attention there will be a visual, as well as words on the bottom. After the story the students will have to answer a series of question regarding what happened throughout the story. Comparative to an accelerated reading test.

My Word Wall Writing: On My Word Wall, children can develop early writing skills. Students will hear, visualize, vocally repeat, and write down letters and words to learn, plus get engaged with educational activities that are great for all learning styles. Kids will also have the ability to trace uppercase and lowercase letters with their fingers on this app. Letter Lab not only teaches kids to write, but also about real-world objects with an audio component.

Math Arcade Math: Math Arcade is the math activities section. It will be organized by skill, so teachers can have students practice exactly what they want. It could be great test practice with it's multiple choice format. It will even have a built-in scratch paper feature.

Virtual Laboratory Science: Virtual Laboratory tackles a handful of environmental topics such as the four seasons, the parts of a plant as well as the plant cycle, the water cycle, and more. It will features activities related to basic science concepts (ex: how we use our five senses, how things sink or float).

Museum Of History History: Museum of History features activities that focus on presidents, movements, documents, etc. It will include topics such as the Trail of Tears, Civil War, etc.

Gaming Games: The gaming section of this application will hold games that students have unlocked by completing assignments given throughout the above topics.

Difficulty of Levels Depending on the grade level, the difficulty of the games and activities can be changed. (For example: The Reading Rabbit will not read to third graders. They will be required to read a story on their own and answer questions). My product will definitely create an increase in motivation to learn through the technology of an iPad. The teacher could even set up a rewards strategy in addition to unlocking fun games at the end.
