1 Navigating the MAEIA Website
Module 5 IN THE MAEIA MODULE SERIES Welcome to this Introduction to the Michigan Arts Education Instruction and Assessment Project. In the next few minutes, I’ll describe some important aspects of this ground-breaking project.

2 Purposes of MAEIA Project
Improve the quality of your arts education program Monitor and improve student learning in the arts Support professional practice and improve teacher effectiveness Advance arts as a core element of public education The MAEIA project was commissioned by the Michigan Department of Education. It was developed by the Michigan Assessment Consortium in concert with Data Recognition Corporation, and in partnership with over 1,000 Michigan Educators. The purposes for MAEIA are to help arts educators improve their arts education programs, monitor and improve student learning in the arts, support professional practice and improve their effectiveness as teachers, and ultimately, advance arts education as a key part of a well-rounded education.

They describe the MAEIA program, and the MAEIA resources available to you, including the MAEIA assessments. The module series describes how to select, use, score and report the MAEIA assessments. This module focuses on navigating the MAEIA Website. 4 5

5 MAEIA Home Page - 1 When you go to the MAEIA home page, this is what you first see. It shows several links at the top: K-12 Tools & Resources Model Assessments Partners About Us Join the Conversation Each of which will be discussed in later slides.

6 MAEIA Home Page - 2 Scrolling down the home page, this is the next part you will see. It shows the three major purposes of MAEIA: Promote Student Learning Program Improvement Professional Learning There are links for more information about each purpose.

7 MAEIA Home Page - 3 Scrolling further down, this is the next part you will see. It shows how to access the MAEIA model assessments in the disciplines of dance, music, theatre, and visual arts, suitable for grades K-12. The assessments are available for grade spans K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and high school.

8 MAEIA Home Page - 4 Scrolling even further down, this is the next part of the home page you will see. It shows ways to link to other related arts education information, such as cutting edge research, the MAEIA Fellows Leadership Program, news of the arts in schools, and ways in which MAEIA itself is in the news.

9 MAEIA Home Page – 5 Even further down the home page, this is what you will see. It shows upcoming arts education events.

10 MAEIA Home Page - 6 Scrolling down, this is the last part of the home page you will see. It shows who are partners with MAEIA and how to access information from the MAEIA partners

11 K-12 Tools and Resources Tab
Going back to the top of the home page, and hovering over the “K-12 Tools and Resources” tab, this box pops up. It shows the three basic program purposes already mentioned and the resources available under each one.

12 Promote Student Learning
Hovering over the “Promote Student Learning” heading within the K-12 Resources and Tools tab, provides access to the MAEIA Model Assessments link, as well as a link to how the MAEIA assessments can be used to demonstrate educator effectiveness.

13 Program Improvement Hovering over the “Program Improvement” heading within the K-12 Resources and Tools tab provides access to the program improvement resources. These include: the MAEIA Program Blueprint – the description of a high-quality arts education program, supporting research and recommendations, and the MAEIA Program Review Tool – a resource for educators to examine their arts education program for school improvement purposes.

14 Professional Learning
Hovering over the “Professional Learning” heading within the K-12 Resources and Tools tab provides access to the professional learning resources. These include: Videos Webinars Supporting materials Other professional learning links

15 Model Assessments Tab Clicking on the “Model Assessment” tab at the top of the home page brings this page up. Notice that there is a video you can watch about the use of the MAEIA assessments. You can also download the general Assessment Administration Manual, as well as the Assessment Specifications Cocuments that describe how the assessments were built. In addition, you can browse through the catalog of assessments, using the links at the bottom of the page.

16 Assessment Catalogue Page
Clicking on the Visual Arts link brings you to this page, where the catalog of the available assessments in visual arts is shown. Notice that the items are catalogued in several different ways to facilitate your selection of the assessments you might want to use.

17 MAEIA’s Assessment Catalogue
An online catalogue of more than 350 performance assessments for grades K-12 across four arts disciplines (dance, theatre, music and visual arts) is available for voluntary use by Michigan educators . All of the more than 350 MAEIA assessment items are available on the MAEIA website. When you go to the website, you will see that the items have been catalogued and are accessible to you in several ways. There are performance assessments suitable for K-12, divided into subsets for grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and high school. The assessments are available in dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. All of these assessments are being available to you and other arts educators on a voluntary basis for use as you provide instruction to your students.

18 Partners Tab Clicking on the Partners link on the home page brings you to this page, where organizations that are partnering with MAEIA are shown, along with news from those partners.

19 About Us Tab Clicking on the About Us link on the home page brings you to this page, where several links are provided. These include: the history of the MAEIA project news of the project, and a list of the MAEIA resources

20 Join the Conversation Tab - 1
Clicking on the Join the Conversation link on the home page brings you to this page. You can post your ideas and thoughts, view social media posts, peruse upcoming events, and add your voice to that of others. Recent blog posts are shown at the bottom of the page.

21 Join the Conversation - 2
Scrolling to the bottom of the Join the Conversation page brings you to this part shown in the slide. It shows you what events are happening.

22 maeia-artsednetwork.org Be sure to join the community of arts educators to discuss these and other ideas. Register on the site (see the word “Register” in the upper right hand corner), and join with other arts educators in improving your arts education programs.
