The purpose of this session is to help you understand how the two words relate to one another and how to develop a vision statement with associated goals to reach it.

4 FACTORS IN WRITING A VISION STATEMENT
Before you begin, remove all limitations you would normally impose on yourself. Allow yourself to think in terms of future possibilities. Think beyond visions such as grossing $3,000 per month or surviving the first year.

A vision statement should stretch your imagination. Place no limits on funds, time, or other restrictions that may be floating around in your head.

Leave your statement open-ended. Take away that time factor that traditionally told us to visualize three to five years ahead.

Start with what you want to do and finish with what it will ultimately look like when you achieve your dreams. A vision is a clearly articulated, result oriented, picture of the future you want to create. But, at the same time, it does not include the how and when.

Make your statement inspirational, first for you, and then for your employees and clients/customers. SAMPLE For Strategic Duck and BizQuack to become the Nation’s best, most respected, successful, and sought after small business support system.

9 It’s not about being fancy.
FACTORS IN WRITING A VISION STATEMENT Keep your statement to one, or no more than two sentences. Simplify your ideas. It’s not about being fancy. It’s about creating a brief statement that explains, inspires, and guides the company and it’s employees and customers.

Don’t hide your vision statement under a bushel basket! In other words, don’t stick it in a drawer and forget about it. Your vision is the most significant part of your business. Put it in a place where you and others can see it.

At the time you write your vision statement you may not be able to see clearly all the steps that have to be taken to make it a reality. That’s OK!

12 GOALS WHY DO WE NEED GOALS?

13 HOW DO GOALS FIT IN? To make your vision a reality, it needs to be coupled with goals. Your Vision is the inspiration you need to set your goals. Goals are where the hard work begins and they will test your abilities, skills and perseverance.

14 GOALS Goals are stepping stones that will take you to your vision. As you complete each step, it puts you within reach of the next, and the next. It takes many steps to achieve your vision. Goals, like steps, are short-lived, as you step off one, you go on to the next.

T Time You must make the time commitment necessary to achieve the goal in the time you allocated.
