Our Mission Statement:
To ensure that students will receive the high quality instruction needed to gain the skills to be academically proficient in English in all language domains (reading, writing, listening, and speaking), to ensure equal access to core content and understanding of the mainstream culture in an inclusive school community, and provide the social skills necessary to participate fully in society.

Round Lake-Brewster is a small rural school district; we serve students in preschool through eighth grade. Our students are primarily Spanish speakers. We have students at all levels of language proficiency. Round Lake Brewster Margarita Munoz Robyn Bickner

Jackson County Central is a consortium member for its English Language Learner program. Our students are primarily Laos speaking however, we have a few students who speak other languages Our students vary between Level 2 “emerging” and Level 5 “bridging” which are near fluent speakers and need some support in the classroom. Students use Read 180 - a web-based reading practice.
Daily journaling for writing practice. Practicing reading and comprehension skills.

Lynd is a small rural school district; we serve students in preschool through eighth grade. Our students are predominantly Spanish speakers however, we have a few students who speak other languages. Our students are at all levels of language proficiency. Lynd students are instructed in English, but attend daily Spanish classes. Most students receive ESL instruction during small group Daily Five, Intervention and/or Enrichment periods. Lynd Roshawn Sook

Our students are primarily Spanish speaking students; however, there are a few other languages represented. We have students ranging from non-English newcomers to “bridging” which are those who are near fluent speakers who may need some support in the classroom. Students turn and talk to recall story details, helping each other to understand the story.
W I NF A R Students draw summaries of stories, then orally tell what happened. Students use letter blocks to build word families and find real words. Students sort objects by similar traits.

Middle School/High School
Retelling a story using graphic organizers is a great way to use the newly acquired vocabulary and sequencing skills. Magazines, internet, and other sources are used to find pictures to help name items and form sentences. This student was finding photos that would be the basis for sentences with pronouns.

Word games help the students use language they have acquired in other classes.
Students use IXL language and math. Other online language learning tools include Rosetta Stone. Students do topic research and make presentations to share. They use the language they have learned and “teach” the other students.
