Criticism of El Greco's View of Toledo

View of Toledo- Oils on canvas
The painting shows a distant persons view of the skyline of Toledo. The large, dark storm looming over the city suggests that the artist had dark views of Toledo as a city in the form of an oil painting.
3
Analysis From what I can see, the focal point of this work appears to be the steeple of the church. Dark clouds loom over the city, suggesting that the city was experiencing a fit of bad weather. The view suggests that the artist painted this from a very far vantage point, capturing the rolling hills surrounding the city.
4
Interpretation The painting seems to show that the given artist had odd opinions about went on in Toledo, portraying the city as beautiful on the outside, while in reality the city is shrouded in evil and deceit. The stunning artwork carries a deeper meaning than meets the eye.
5
Judgment The painting is in my opinion a success, very beautiful and well done. Though I think that painting a cities skyline isn't necessarily original, I still think that the painting comes out as unique. The seemingly globular sky above the massive town with a stunning landscape surrounding it.
