The Cathedral of Parma The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, known as the Duomo of Parma, is the most important place of worship in Parma. It is located in Cathedral Square, next to the Baptistery and the Bishop's Palace. The facade of Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral overlooks Piazza Duomo, opposite the bishop's palace . It is built in Romanesque style. The lower part is smooth, without decorations; there the three portals open. The central portal, unlike the other two, is preceded by Giambono of Bissone's porch ( 1281 ). The doors of the central portal , finely carved in relief , are the work of Luchino Bianchini ( 1491 ) . One element of the lower part of the facade decoration is the tombstone of the mathematician Blasius of Parma , carved in 1416 and located to the right of the central portal .

Above them, there is a thick spiral of clouds that ends in a dense tangle of angels, saints and patriarchs, arranged on several concentric circles. In the middle, it is recognizable the Madonna flanked by Adam, Eve and St. Joseph. At the center of the fresco, a large yellow light is depicted as a symbol of God's presence.
