Inkjet printer is a type of computer printing device that creates a digital image by propelling droplets of ink onto paper, plastic, or other materials. Inkjet printers are the most commonly used type of printer, and range from small inexpensive consumer models to expensive professional machines. It uses special ink to print on the paper. Inkjet printers are a familiar sight in homes and offices, used to print homework, newsletters and photos for the family or quotes, invoices, forms and color business documents for small businesses. HOW DOES THE INKJET PRINTER WORK ? During printing, ink is emitted from nozzles, which are located on print head. The print head move from left to right and back horizontally, and paper moves vertically one-way from back to front or front to back. There are two major types of technologies to get ink jetted out from print head onto paper. They are as follow : Thermal technology: Most inkjets use this method to print. When printing, ink droplet is heated, it expands then bursts. This causes the ink squirt through nozzles onto paper. The inkjet printers, made by HP and Canon, employ this technology. Piezo-Electric technology: This method is used by Epson ink printer. Epson ink printer uses a Piezo element at the rear of the ink reservoir. When printing, a current is applied to the Piezo element, then it flexes, and forces ink droplet out of the nozzle.

Advantage of Inkjet Printers Inkjet printers are small and are easy to move around, which makes them reasonably portable in a small business or home office environment. Because of the ink technology where thousands of ink droplets are shot onto the paper, image quality can be outstanding. Inkjet printers are known to be cost-effective as they have feature of all-in- one.

Disadvantage of Inkjet Printers The cost of each ink cartridge can be equal to the printer itself hence, the cartridge replacement would be expensive. it is best to use glossy photo paper designed to enhance the ink droplets while at the same time minimizing the possibility of smears or smudges. However, the costs for this specialized paper are higher than ordinary copy paper. Any time you use liquid ink technology you run a slight risk of smearing and smudging prior to the ink completely drying on the paper. To a much lesser degree, sometimes the ink may clog where the ink droplets are shot onto the paper. This can cause image-quality problems and the ink cartridge may need to be self-cleaned or replaced.
