As we’ve seen, servicing around belts can be hazardous. I suspect…… no I know we have more discrepancies at various locations and I just want to make sure we are all on the same playing field.

3. First of all “Don’t break the plane “ No work shall be done with any part of the body or tool (brooms, shovels, etc.) in any are within the confines of either edge of the belt unless……… (next slide)

4. Lock, Tag & Try
I realize there are some areas where the switchgear is a long distance away or even another level. But think, what we would do if a fatality is involved. This step includes all of the above –LOCK-TAG-TRY. Follow the lockout procedure in the new electrical standard. Does this mean you have to lock out all the time? This means that if there is an exposure to an employee then you must lock-out! No exposure, no lock-out. If needed, do an evaluation/observation of the job. You have safety process team members, employees on the job/Safety Dept. to help with that decision.

5. Lubrication Of Fittings

7. Emergency Stop Cords Not used as lock-out device
Simply put these cannot be used in place of a lock-out device.
The emergency stop cord is for persons falling on and entrapped in the belt. It must be raised for fall protection.
