Timeline for Implementation
Canvas Studio Page for Gradebook Enhancements Current – Spring, January 6, 2018 Production Release Generally available in course feature options after the January 6, 2018 release. Faculty can turn on the gradebook on a course by course basis. Once the late polices are enabled faculty will NOT be able to go back to the current gradebook. Phase 1 In progress Features currently in development Phase 2 Future Work Will move to development once phase 1 is done Retirement of Current Gradebook – tentatively Fall 2018 The old gradebook will be retired and will no longer be available. All faculty will be using the new gradebook. This gives you a brief overview of gradebook development plan. Please note this timeline is subject to change depending on how fast the developers make progress on enhancements. This past fall Instructure encouraged faculty to be beta testers for the new gradebook. Stating with the November 18, 2017 the new gradebook included new grading features. Over the next few releases new features were continually updated until where the gradebook currently is in development. The developers are currently working on phase one. There are only a few features to added in this phase so this should go fairly fast. Once phase one is complete they will begin on phase two which includes many more features. It is unclear at this time how long this will take. Tentatively the end of life date for the current gradebook is fall Please note this is subject to change. Note: Timeline is subject to change

The new Statuses feature will allow instructors to customize the statuses of assignment submissions in the gradebook. Late – Student has submitted the assignment online past the due date. Missing – Student never submitted the assignment online. Resubmitted – Student has submitted the assignment online more than once. Dropped – The assignment has been dropped from the total calculation. Excused – The instructor has typed EX into the cell to excuse the assignment for the student. View > Statuses Important Notes about Status Labels Late - If a student submits the assignment after the due date, the assignment is identified as late. If instructors do not wish for this tag to display, an Available Until date should be set in the assignment settings. This will restrict student submissions once the Available Until day passes. Additionally, instructors can setup the late policies so an automatic zero is recorded. Missing - If a student has not submitted the assignment by the due date, the assignment is identified as missing. Please note regardless of the assignment setup, the missing tag will display in the SpeedGrader and grades page for students. The missing tag will still display even the instructor has entered the assignments score in the gradebook. This can be changed in the grade detail tray by setting the status label to none. See next slide for details. Dropped – This will occur when the assignment is part of drop rule in an assignment group or the assignment settings have been configured to drop the score.
