1 Dustbin Design and Manufacture from Recyclable Materials
Creativity Project

2 Design Problem Bins in our classrooms are made of plastic. In today’s revolution for sustainability we need to use more eco-friendly options. They lack in terms of organization which inhibits recycling of recyclable products. They lack in volume, they fill up pretty fast during the day. They are easily knocked over. This increases risks of spillage and mess in the classroom.

3 Design Brief I hope to provide a dustbin that is made predominantly by recycled materials. The dustbin must have some level of segregation of waste. The dustbin needs to sufficient volume to contain all the waste generated. They need to be designed to have a more stable base and less easy to knock over.

4 Design Specification It must have clear segregation of waste
Can be manufactured from recyclable materials easily The dustbin needs to be of the right size taking into account, properties and volume of garbage They need to be space effective

5 Design 1 Description Photograph
Wide base, hence lower centre of gravity and greater stability Neat, visible segregation Takes up too much space Compartments may not be proportional to waste produced by the class

6 Design 2 Description Photograph
Separate, removable compartments means whole dustbin need not be moved Takes up too much space Divisions not proportionate to waste generated in class More complex to manufacture

7 Design 3 Description Photograph More proportional to waste produced
Hides garbage from view Full bin need not be moved Less floor space us Very hard to manufacture Very resource intensive

8 Improved Design 3 Photograph Description No need to move full dustbin
Draw system less often pulled hence reduces wear and tear Stackable Hides garbage from view

9 Steps for Manufacture Cutting list is prepared to cut out all pieces without miscalculations The cardboard is marked out with a steel rule and pencil Heavy duty scissors are used cut the pieces The pieces are joined to form the dustbin
