Welcome to 8th Grade Mathematics!
Ms. LaVeglio and Mrs. Thompson Room 317 Purpose: Provide an overview of this year. Give you an idea of what your child experiences in our class. Our Focus: Learn about the 8th grade math curriculum and our classroom protocol. Let you know how we, together, can help your child learn and appreciate mathematics.

Objective for the year Students will develop a conceptual understanding of the topics we explore: Thinking with Mathematical Models- Linear Relationships Looking for Pythagoras- Pythagorean Theorem Growing, Growing, Growing- Exponential Functions Frogs, Fleas, & Painted Cubes- Quadratic Functions Butterflies, Pinwheels, & Wallpaper- Transformations Say it with Symbols- Working with equations Its in the System- Systems of Linear Equations/ Inequalities Function Junction- Functions

CMP3 Textbook Textbook Guide: CMP3 Grade 8
Our textbook is divided up into 8 different books, or units. Each book (unit) is individually numbered, starting with a cover page. Each book is broken down into investigations (ex: 1.1 ,2.3 ,3.2). These are similar to chapters

Grading and Assessments
Homework and Notebooks Homework – Assigned nightly and must be fully completed the day it is due. All or nothing credit – setting high expectations. Notebooks are a necessity – Notes and HW need to stay organized. Notebooks should be brought home daily! Assessments, Homework, Participation Points system.

Each assignment is worth a certain amount of points. The marking period grades are calculated as follows: Total points earned Total points possible FINAL EXAM (1/9th of overall grade)

Sign up for Remind 101! Go to my teacher page and find the link under helpful websites Be positive! Encourage your child to be involved in class and to come prepared every day. Encourage your child to come in for extra help during office hours. Encourage your child to think and try when he or she says “I don’t get it.”

LaVeglio- Monday/Tuesday/Thursday: 2:45-3:30 PM Wednesday/Friday: 7:40-8:00 AM Thompson (Per. 9)- Monday-Friday: 2:45-3:30 PM Tuesday-Thursday: 7:35-8:00 AM *Morning hours require a pass* I am here to help! The material students will learn this year is a foundation for what they will learn in high school and beyond.
