‘TIME FOR REFLECTION’ AND DETENTION:
This system has greatly improved both behaviour and communication
to parents.
Detention and time for reflection is held every morning break. Children who are asked to attend because of behavioural problems, have an opportunity to talk about their offence during a circle time session with other children. We ensure that they understand what they have done wrong and how they can improve their behaviour in the future. This discussion is then recorded by the child.
The children report to detention with their card which records the date and reason why they are there. There is a member of staff on duty each day and both the staff and our pupils take the system quite seriously.
If a child is given three cards within half term, an official letter will be sent home to parents communicating the problems and asking for home support.
If a fourth card is issued, the school will arrange for a meeting between the Headteacher and parents to discuss the way forward.
Each half term all the detention cards are removed and children are given a ‘clean sheet’.
Primary Schools do have the right to give after school detentions, with written notice to parents 24 hours before the punishment. However, we do not anticipate that we have to use this procedure at Woodheys Primary School. 7.

Further sanctions may include some form of exclusion
At Woodheys we expect good behaviour to be the norm. We are confident that we can rely on the school judgement of our staff to use rewards and sanctions at their discretion.
BULLYING AFTER SCHOOL
Whilst the school is not responsible for pupil behaviour outside school hours, we do feel that any pupil behaviour reflects upon us and, therefore, we will take serious any incidents which occur within the community. 6.

WHAT IS A BULLY ?
A bully is a person who makes life hard for others by deliberately picking on them for no reason. This happens not just once or twice but many times.
It can be hitting, kicking, hair pulling and other things that hurt the body.
It can be spreading rumours, leaving people out on purpose, name calling or threatening that hurt you inside and make you afraid. Bullying is nasty.
People will get hurt if there is a bully around. 1.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP PREVENT BULLYING IN OUR SCHOOL…
If you are ever bullied or threatened…
Tell the member of staff who is responsible for you, do this straight away.
If you cannot do this, for any reason, tell another member of staff, a friend, or your parents as soon as possible.
Report bullying straight away, but be honest and ask yourself if your own behaviour has caused others to get angry or upset with you.

Always report any bullying – of yourself or others
Never join in the bullying
Make sure you and your friends never go into areas of the school where you should not be. Stay in the areas which are supervised by staff. 2.
REWARDS AT WOODHEYS
We will use every opportunity to offer praise and highlight positive
behaviour and set achievable goals.
Encouragement:
Acknowledge children and positive actions in Assemblies e.g. Certificate of Merit, both individuals and whole class rewarded policy.
These will accumulate so that pupils can earn:
KS1/Infants: a) merit stickers
b) public praise
c) marbles for class jar
KS2/Juniors: a) team points
b) merit certificate and badges
c) public praise
d) positions of responsibility

IF YOU ARE FOUND TO BE A BULLY
Those at home will be informed as soon as possible and a report will go home to them
A copy of this report will go into your file in school as a record of the incident and the action taken
You will be required to make a full and proper apology to the person you have bullied
Your parent(s) or carer(s) may be asked to come to school to discuss your behaviour
If necessary, you will be excluded from school, until you can agree to behave is a safer, more pleasant way. 3.

IMPLICATIONS FOR PARENTS
Parents need to:
Contact school if you are aware that bullying is taking place.
Encourage children NOT to be aggressive with other people.
