Organizational Performance Metric

Safety Climate The extent to which employees perceive that safety and safe behaviour is genuinely valued and rewarded in an organization (Zohar, 2010) Safety climate speaks to the relative importance of safety in a setting (Zohar, 2010) and is a leading indicator of safety performance. 1) Safety is a high priority 2) Close alignment between words and actions 3) Consistency across the hierarchy (CEO, VP, managers, supervisors, frontline employees)

A Leading Indicator of Safety Performance: The Organizational Performance Metric (OPM)
8-item measure developed and extensively tested by the Institute for Work and Health (IWH) between 2008 and 2014 (see and Predictive of future reported injuries OPM is widely used in Ontario, New Brunswick, and other jurisdictions. Used in Saskatchewan as part of the "Priority Employer" Program and Safe Saskatchewan Mission Zero Awards
