9/7 Bellringer Respond with 4-5 sentences In the late 1600s and early 1700s, the British government began to change some of the laws that governed the American colonies. The colonist did not always like these changes. How would you feel if the rules you had to follow changed suddenly? How do you think you would react?

Government in the Colonies
All British colonies were governed with a policy called Salutary Neglect Parliament & the king were in charge, but did not enforce policies as long as Britain profited from the colonies

In mercantilism you want to export more than you import
Around 1650, Britain began to use an economic policy called mercantilism Mercantilism Basically it means that colonies exist to generate wealth for the mother country In mercantilism you want to export more than you import

Advertise a Colony In groups of 2-3, create an advertisement poster for one of the 13 colonies. Your goal is to entice other people to come to your colony. In the advertisement, be sure to include: The Name of the colony and its region The person/group that founded it and the reason for it being created Reasons someone might want to come to the colony (social, political, economic) A hand-drawn map of the colony and a hand-drawn picture or two of what new settlers can anticipate in the colony
