Rousseau’s Jungle *MANY ANIMALS THAT ARE IN THIS POWER POINT ARE NOT JUNGLE ANIMALS. HENRI ROUSSEAU USED PLANTS AND ANIMALS FROM THE BOTANICAL GARDEN, ZOO, PICTURES AND MAGAZINES TO CREATE HIS OWN IMAGINITIVE JUNGLE SCENES.

Henri Rousseau Henri Rousseau never visited a jungle or a rainforest.
He observed animals at the zoo and looked at photographs. He used his imagination to create his own jungle world.

Rousseau’s World Rousseau painted house plants larger than humans!
He gave animals human characteristics! Henri Rousseau broke the art rules of his time!

Rousseau wanted to show details in his paintings and make the viewer wonder. He did not care about making a painting like a photograph. He made his paintings real in other ways. What is real in Rousseau’s world?
