2 Is Soundness Possible? Scoffers: “What is your criteria for determining soundness?” Must we write a creed to determine truth and error, and to define soundness? Must we catalog every Biblical truth and every fruit of darkness? Eph. 5:11 Are we able to know and properly apply God’s word of truth? Eph. 5:17

Recognize, accept and use God’s standard to define soundness: Inspired Scriptures, 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Study to know truth, 2 Timothy 2:15; Acts 17:11-12 (Jno. 5:39) Can correctly understand truth and know whether we are sound, John 8:31-32; Ephesians 5:17 Test case: 1 Thess. 1:5-10 (2 Cor. 13:5)

7 Diagnosing Spiritual Illness
Know the cause of spiritual illness: Sin Romans 6:23; 1 John 5:17 Teaching doctrinal error is spiritual disease (sin), Gal. 1:6-9; 1 Tim. 4:1-3; 2 Jno. 9-11 Following doctrinal error is spiritual disease (sin), 2 Timothy 2:16-18 Failure to teach and obey the truth is spiritual disease (sin), 2 Peter 1:8-9 (Jas. 4:17)

8 Is It Possible to be Sound?
Yes it is possible! Commanded to be sound, Ephesians 6:10 Examples of soundness, Philippians 3:16-17 Purpose of gospel preaching is our soundness, Colossians 1:28 Reward of soundness is heaven, 1 Tim. 4:8 Our determination is to be sound, 2 Cor. 5:9; 1 John 4:1, 6; Revelation 2:2-3

9 It Is Possible to be Sound
Brethren who quibble that we are not equipped to measure doctrinal soundness are often the same ones who justify tolerance and acceptance of doctrinal differences and moral uncertainties (spiritual illness), Timothy 4:3
