3. What we’re actually doing
Building three new buildings, renovating three old buildings with the help of new residents and paid architects, all three to four stories
Putting in a smaller side, and larger central garden area with paths for running, walking, etc.
Putting a central playground in the middle of our layout, visible from the apartment buildings, encouraging not only use by the occupants but a sense that everyone is watching over everyone else’s children
Putting in a wall of trees along the edge bordering the undeveloped land
Painting the outside of all the apartment buildings to beautify the neighborhood and create feeling of community, pride, done by locals and residents

4. Micro Home Solutions and the Favela Painting Project
We will hire architectural firm, who will design the interior layout, and oversee and teach safety and the building of new apartments
Like the Design Home Solutions project, we are trying to use existing structures whenever possible, and people getting in on the ground level have the opportunity to sublet apartments they worked on
Including local artists, youth, and residents in the painting and beautification of the buildings
Gives them skills and a profession to use in the future, pride in their living space and desire to ensure its upkeep

5. Final Goals
Aiming to bring more people into a transitory zone, provide opportunity for low-income housing in an area hit by poverty
By having a green area, beautiful buildings, and playground, provides safer forum for people to make interpersonal connection
Gives pride for people in their area, if this project goes as planned, people who drive from miles around to see it, discourages crime (“broken window theory”)

6. Meeting peoples needs
Provides low income housing for many poor and homeless in the area
Clean up scrub, abandoned parking lots, and ugly abandoned buildings
Creating sense of community
