Conquest of the Incas By: Ben Malone, Josh Pohlman, Jared Wisotsky, and Seth Judge

2 How did the desire for natural resources lead to conflict between the Incas and Spanish?
The Spanish wanted silver. There was lots of silver in the Inca’s territory, and Spain viewed the silver very highly. When Spain got this, their gamble paid off. They became very rich. They also they wanted to have all of the land the Inca’s had conquered, and all of the crops they had stored.

3 What explorer lead the Spanish through the conquest of the Inca?
Francisco Pizarro was a Spanish Conquistador who lead the Spanish through the conquest of the Inca. Pizarro was born Trujillo, Caceres, Spain. On November 10, 1509 Pizarro sailed to the New World. In Pizarro had his first attempt to sail to western South America. When hostile natives threatened the expedition, Pizarro was forced to move inland. The Inca chief Atahualpa, refused that the Spanish navigate on his lands, but was captured during the Battle of Cajamarca November 16, Pizarro charged the chief with various crimes and executed him on July 36, 1533.

4 What where the economic effects of the conquest of the Incas on spain and the rest of the world?
The Conquest of Inca put Spain in debt from all the silver that they collected from the mountain and they went into debt because they did not set tax rates to account for the silver. They had to sell all their silver China to put them out of debt. China’s government then forced the people to make silk for the government to pay taxes so that they would not go into debt. This in turn, put almost every Chinese silk maker in business, and European silk makers out of business.

5 What advantages or events led to the downfall of the Inca?
One huge advantage Spain had was they were used to dangerous diseases the Incas had never had to deal with. This lead to a massive population decrease, and this made many upset. Another advantage Spain had was technology. The Spanish had guns and other weapons, and the Incas weren’t very advanced, and the bow and arrow was their best weapon.

6 What natural resources did Spain want from the Incas?
Spain wanted 3 big resources. One of the biggest things they wanted in the New World was land. Land would be very helpful for expanding their territory. Another resource they wanted when they overtook the Incas was crops. They wanted the crops from the New World because the crops had a lot of calories, unlike other crops. The last big thing they wanted was silver. In Inca territory, there was a big mountain full of silver. If they got this silver, they would become wealthy.

7 Why does culture play an important role in the conquest of the Inca?
Since the Inca was willing to do human sacrifice their numbers were weakened when the Spanish attacked them. Also since the Inca used the bow as part of their culture, they were less technologically advanced than their enemy, the Spanish with their muskets.
