Performing Arts Dance Program
Students study Classical Ballet, Modern Dance, Afro-Caribbean Dance, Dance History, Dance Composition, and Choreography. BAVPA has three dance studios.

Performing Arts Instrumental Music
Students study musical styles from ancient to contemporary, learn basic music skills (melodic, harmonic, rhythmic awareness), and enjoy a broad exposure to a variety of cultures through listening, performing, and reading. BAVPA has three bands, a string ensemble, and a number of smaller student-run groups that rehearse daily and perform regularly throughout the region.

Performing Arts Television and Film Production
Students study technical and journalistic writing skills, public speaking, and audio-visual production. BAVPA has studios where video documentaries are scripted or taped, television programs are planned and produced, musical groups are professionally recorded with digital sound equipment, and contemporary issues involving the news media are explored. This program prepares students who are interested in broadcasting, public relations, or advertising.

Performing Arts Theatre
Students study playwriting, improvisation, acting, voice and movement, theatre history, scene study, directing, and technical theatre. You will develop skills of observation, analysis, creative problem-solving, and teamwork through lab, seminar, and performance.

Performing Arts Visual Arts
Grades count for 15% of the admission process. 85%-100% attendance plus 1 reference You must audition in October: Students must take a portfolio with 5-10 works to the audition. See your Art teacher NOW!! Subjects such as cartoon characters, super heroes, automobiles, and football players should not be included. You should be prepared to draw a still-life during the interview. Each student will participate in an interview and write a composition.

You will take four years of computer classes. Students are assigned their own iMac computers for all four years. You will earn a Regents diploma. The program emphasizes math and science. You will learn about computer history, programming, software applications, Internet, web page design, and graphic design.

Bennett International Studies
The program focuses on global education and foreign languages. You will study French and Spanish. You will also study keyboarding, accounting, and an introduction to occupations course. During your senior year, you will participate in an internship, and you can attend a Personal Finance class at Buffalo State College. Students also have the opportunity to study in other countries.

Bennett Law Program You will prepare to enter criminal justice /pre-law programs at local colleges and universities. You will develop critical and analytical thinking skills while learning about the workings of our legal system. You will take enriched English, Social Studies, Math and Science classes as well as complete a law sequence. Students are required to take three years of Latin.

Burgard Automotive Repair
Students work on automotive repair, improvements, and maintenance. At the completion of the program, students will have two college credits to Alfred Tech or ECC. Jobs are available to outstanding graduates ($40, $55,000.00)

Burgard is looking for students who are self-motivated, take direction well, and like hands-on activities. During your freshman year, you will study both automotive and welding. At the end of ninth grade, you will decide with your teachers if you should study automotive repair or welding.

Students learn a variety of welding techniques and procedures that are used in construction. The Welding Program is looking for students who like hands-on work. Some grads leave Burgard and begin working in jobs starting at $20+ per hour.

Students who are interested in medicine (especially nursing) should consider this program. The HOT program focuses on science and math and prepares students to work in hospitals, clinics, and physicians’ offices. Internships at hospitals and doctors’ offices are arranged through the program.

East High School Bioinformatics is the combination of science and technology. If you are interested in medicine, computers, math, and science, you may want to consider this program. This program is looking for students who are interested in math and computers. The Finance Program teaches students about banking, credit, economics, financial planning, insurance, and accounting. Students are offered paid internships, the opportunity to volunteer for the student store, and the option of joining Junior Achievement where students are linked with mentors in the field. Finance seniors are placed into a three-credit course for college credit at Canisius College, Buffalo State, D’Youville, Bryant Stratton, ECC, or Hilbert College.

This program is looking for students who are interested in working in the largest service industry in the world. The Hospitality and Tourism Program teaches students about computers in business, the tourism industry (which includes reservations, transportation, and on-line systems), economics, and geography. The course work may also include sports, entertainment, and event management. The Academy has more than 500 travel-related companies participating as business partners.

McKinley Aquatic Ecology
This program is designed for students who are interested in Science and Math. The Aquatic Ecology Program focuses on environmental science, wildlife management, water quality testing, and forestry. Students actually obtain samples for study and analysis in the lab. Field work is completed at various sites, such as Tifft Farms and other conservation areas. Conservation projects include raising fish for restocking local streams, maintaining deer check stations, and setting up and maintaining wildlife feeding boxes.

85% average…honors level work 85% - 100% attendance The program will accept 24 students. During junior and senior years, students are placed in internships at the Buffalo Zoo, Niagara Falls Aquarium, and other local environmental agencies.

McKinley Building Trades
All freshmen will be enrolled in Exploratory Building Trades where they will study all four areas and specialize in blueprint reading, drafting, and enriched math and science. At the end of freshman year, students meet with faculty and decide area of specialization. This area has “unlimited opportunities.” Grads can go directly into the workforce, enter a two-year trade school for further training, or go on to a four-year college.

Carpentry Students will learn drywall application, roofing, siding, and framing. Juniors and seniors build full-size and buildings, and some seniors work at actual construction sites. Plumbing Students learn about water supply systems, plumbing fixtures, and repair. Juniors design and build residential bathrooms; seniors work on a commercial project. Most seniors are employed in the field by graduation.

Sheet Metal Technology Students learn about welding, riveting, and soldering. The design and layout of sheet metal used for the movement of air are studied. Seniors design and build residential air conditioning and heating systems.

Learn how to wire homes, businesses and industrial sites. Learn about electronic repair, motor control, and troubleshooting.

McKinley Horticulture Program
Students learn about the growing, distribution, and maintenance of plants, soil, and flowers. The areas of floriculture, landscaping, and greenhouse operations are studied. Graduates from the program are prepared for careers as florists, gardeners, growers, landscape planners, nursery operators, estate grounds managers, golf course groundskeepers, and general lawn and landscape managers. Students participate in internships their junior and senior years. All graduates are able to be employed in the field of horticulture or can go on to college.

85% - 100% attendance The program will accept 24-48 students. Students must take and pass Chemistry. Students are also encouraged to join the FFA (Future Farmers of America), a club at McKinley that allows students to attend workshops, conferences, and competitions.

Students are taught the use of non-production machining equipment. The precise machining of metal components used in the manufacturing industry is taught. Students study standard drafting, blueprint reading, and computer aided drafting. Graduates have the option of entering the trade as an apprentice machinist or continuing their education in engineering or trade-related areas.

The graphic arts and printing industry is the largest employer in the metropolitan Buffalo area. Students learn about letter press, desktop publishing, process camera, and screen printing. Seniors work in internships. Graduates who wish to continue their education are granted 15 credits towards an associates degree at ECC. A four- year program is also available at RIT. Graduates are also prepared for a variety of careers in the graphic arts industry.

The Middle Early College is connected with Erie Community College. It is a five year high school and includes a mandatory 6-week summer program. This program helps students develop laboratory and research skills. The classes emphasize inquiry, problem-solving, and active participation.
