Types of Forces By: Vishvag, Irbi, and Sreeni, members of the force and motion group.
2
Normal Force A book resting on a table has a force of gravity pulling it toward the earth. But the book is not accelerating, so there must be opposing forces acting on the book. This force is caused by the table and is known as a normal force.
3
Applied Force An applied force refers to a force that is applied to an object.
4
Frictional Force A frictional force is a force caused by two surfaces that come in contact with each other. Friction is helpful because it allows us to do everyday things like walking on the ground, carrying your bag to school, and holding a pencil.
5
Tension Force A tension force is a force applied to a cable or wire that is anchored on opposite ends to opposing walls or other objects.
6
Spring Force A spring force is a force depending on attached or not attached. If it is attached it can pull or push.
7
Resisting Force A resisting force, like air resistance or friction, changes motion. Whether the forces actually stop or slow something down depends upon your point of view.
