What is Windows Movie Maker?
Windows Movie Maker is a video creating/editing software application, included in Microsoft Windows Me, XP, and Vista. Containing features such as effects, transitions, titles/credits, audio track, timeline narration, and Auto Movie. a basic audio/ sound track editing program. It can apply basic effects to audio files such as fade in or fade out. The file can then be exported in the form of a sound file instead of a video file.

Tips and Recommendations
Finishing the video is always a problem for students. When their project is complete, they should not hit save but FINISH or PUBLISH video. They will then be asked where they want to publish the video to- it is always a good idea for them to publish the video to their computer/ C drive. This step will transform the video from a creator/ editor to a player format. If students are using pictures or videos from home: tell them they must save the files (pictures) on a flash drive where they can work from both home and school. Students will often say “my picture was saved on my computer”. I will remind them that the computer at school can’t find the pictures on their computer at home.

More Tips I have found that it is a good idea to have students work only at school. Why? Students often have Vista at home, a higher operating system. When they bring their project to school, it won’t open. Windows Live is a brand new problem. It does not have Windows Movie Maker and therefore is not compatible.

Last Bit of Advice When using video cameras for recordings, some cameras will only open videos in Quick Time, which is not compatible with Windows Movie Maker (my own camera has this problem). If this happens, there is a solution. You must download a converter. There are many out there that are free, you can either contact me or ask Rob for a good free converter.
