The cells of all living things need chemical energy. Food contains chemical energy When cells break down food, the energy of the chemical bonds in food is released This energy can either be used or stored by the cell Pg. 69

Pg. 69 Living things get food in different ways and can be grouped based on how they get food Producer Consumer Make their own food Most use energy from the sun They use most of the food they produce for energy and store the rest in their bodies (fruits, roots, etc.) Eat other organisms May eat producers OR other consumers Decomposers are also consumers: they break down dead organisms or wastes Fungi and many bacteria are decomposers
