TBC Worship Sun Dec 10, :00 am 2 Samuel 9: (NET Bible) 1 Then David asked, “Is anyone still left from the family of Saul, so that I may extend kindness to him for the sake of Jonathan?” 2 Now there was a servant from Saul’s house named Ziba, so he was summoned to David. The king asked him, “Are you Ziba?” He replied, “At your service.” 3 The king asked, “Is there not someone left from Saul’s family, that I may extend God’s kindness to him?” Ziba said to the king, “One of Jonathan’s sons is left; both of his feet are crippled.” 4 The king asked him, “Where is he?” Ziba told the king, “He is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar. 5 So King David had him brought from the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.

TBC Worship Sun Dec 10, :00 am 1 Samuel 20:14-16, (NET Bible) 14 “While I am still alive, extend to me the loyalty of the LORD, or else I will die! 15 Don’t ever cut off your loyalty to my family, not even when the LORD has cut off every one of David’s enemies from the face of the earth 16 and called David’s enemies to account.” So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David…. 42 Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace, for the two of us have sworn together in the name of the LORD saying, ‘The LORD will be between me and you and between my descendants and your descendants forever.’”

TBC Worship Sun Dec 10, :00 am 1 Samuel 24: (NET Bible) 20 “Now look, I realize that you will in fact be king and that the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hand. 21 So now swear to me in the LORD’s name that you will not kill my descendants after me or destroy my name from the house of my father.” 22 David promised Saul this on oath.

The Kindness of David Enter Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul.

TBC Worship Sun Dec 10, :00 am 2 Samuel 9: (NET Bible) 6 When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed low with his face toward the ground. David said, “Mephibosheth?” He replied, “Yes, at your service.” 7 David said to him, “Don’t be afraid, because I will certainly extend kindness to you for the sake of Jonathan your father. You will be a regular guest at my table.” 8 Then Mephibosheth bowed and said, “Of what importance am I, your servant, that you show regard for a dead dog like me?”

TBC Worship Sun Dec 10, :00 am 2 Samuel 9: (NET Bible) 9 Then the king summoned Ziba, Saul’s attendant, and said to him, “Everything that belonged to Saul and to his entire house I hereby give to your master’s grandson. 10 You will cultivate the land for him – you and your sons and your servants. You will bring its produce and it will be food for your master’s grandson to eat. But Mephibosheth, your master’s grandson, will be a regular guest at my table.” (Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.)

The Kindness of David David goes on the hunt for someone to bless.

The Kindness of David Mephibosheth refers to himself as a dead dog.

The Kindness of David A person after God’s own heart treats people as though God loves them.

7 David said to him, “….You will be a regular guest at my table.”
TBC Worship Sun Dec 10, :00 am 2 Samuel 9:7, 10, 11, (NET Bible) 7 David said to him, “….You will be a regular guest at my table.” 10 “But Mephibosheth, your master’s grandson, will be a regular guest at my table.” 11 So Mephibosheth was a regular guest at David’s table. 13 Mephibosheth was living in Jerusalem, for he was a regular guest at the king’s table.

The Kindness of David Just as the Lord showed unearned kindness to David in chapter seven, David showed unearned kindness to Mephibosheth in chapter nine. David is imitating God.

TBC Worship Sun Dec 10, :00 am 2 Samuel 9: (NET Bible) 11 Ziba said to the king, “Your servant will do everything that my lord the king has instructed his servant to do.” So Mephibosheth was a regular guest at David’s table, just as though he were one of the king’s sons. 12 Now Mephibosheth had a young son whose name was Mica. All the members of Ziba’s household were Mephibosheth’s servants. 13 Mephibosheth was living in Jerusalem, for he was a regular guest at the king’s table. But both his feet were crippled.

TBC Worship Sun Dec 10, :00 am 2 Samuel 9:3, (NET Bible) 3 Ziba said to the king, “One of Jonathan’s sons is left; both of his feet are crippled.” 13 Mephibosheth was living in Jerusalem….But both his feet were crippled.

TBC Worship Sun Dec 10, :00 am 2 Samuel 4: (NET Bible) 4 Now Saul’s son Jonathan had a son who was crippled in both feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan arrived from Jezreel. His nurse picked him up and fled, but in her haste to get away, he fell and was injured. Mephibosheth was his name.

The Kindness of David Just as the Lord elevated lowly David in chapter seven, David elevates lowly Mephibosheth in chapter nine. David is imitating God.

The Kindness of David God delights in exalting the lowly and lowering the self-exalted.

The Kindness of David As a Christian, if you’re not blessing others you’re either failing to see God’s goodness to you or you’re accepting God’s blessings as entitlements.
