From a long line of HMS scholars/faculty
Father & Paternal Grandfather Chiefs of MGH surgery
Mother: Clara Lee Shattuck; he was the 6th Shattuck physician & Shattuck street is where HMS is located.

Served in WWII as a physician
MGH 1946 Res Pysch under Dr. Stanley Cobb
1947- Queens Square Neurology & Maudsley Hosp for Psychiatry
@ Queen Square-exposed to Dr. J. Goodwin Greenfield Neuropathology
MGH Asst to Dr. Charles Kubik Neuropathology
1951-Neuropathology lab director, till 1989
Worked with Adams, Miller Fisher, Castlemen, & Victor
Continued to work until a few months before his death from lymphoma
