1 Remembrance Morning Worship
All Souls Day is about remembering those who have died. Many Churches hold a memorial service where names of loved ones who have died are read out and candles are lit. Death is obviously a very sensitive subject–it is important that we incorporate this topic in our worshipping life especially as it affects us all. However—if you feel it is too sensitive for you or your students at this time and you would prefer to look at another topic—please extend any other worships from this week. 5 Act of Remembrance based on the poetry of John Donne
Ring a bell or beat a drum (or surface) three times, slowly. Pause for silence… read No person is an island, entire of itself. Each is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. With thanksgiving, we remember … Slowly and thoughtfully read the names of those who have died. After each person’s name is read, light a candle or keep a silence; You can also ring the bell or beat the drum once. The words are old – some may be hard to understand – look through and explain any words needed ahead… The feelings about death from John Donne written a long time ago are still sentiments we connect to today… Be sure not to rush, and to allow time for silent reflection. Most importantly it is giving a safe framework for remembering loved ones who have died in a classroom situation… use this for a bell sound effect if you want to create the bell sound—try the ship bell

6 Each person's death diminishes me, for I am involved in humankind.
Therefore, ask not for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for you. Ring the bell or beat the drum three more times, slowly. Then after a brief silence, the reading concludes: Death: be not proud, though some have called you mighty and dreadful, yet you are not so, for those whom you think you can overthrow die not, poor death — nor yet can you kill me. One short sleep past, we wake eternally, and death shall be no more; death, you will die. Readings adapted from “For Whom the Bell Tolls “ and “Death Be Not Proud” by John Donne,

7 Respond Amen Eternal God, our Maker and Redeemer,
This formal prayer reminds us that as Christians our hope is that we and our loved ones who have died will be with God in the next life… Eternal God, our Maker and Redeemer, grant us, with all the faithful departed, the sure benefits of your Son's saving passion and glorious resurrection that, in the last day, when you gather up all things in Christ, we may with them enjoy the fullness of your promises; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

8 Go Neither death nor life can separate us from the love of God
in Jesus Christ our Lord. Thanks be to God
