Your job search When you have lost your job, you may try to find the exact same job you had previously. Preparing to search for work

The value of a job search plan
Building a plan can help you in many ways: Key benefits: Knowing your budget will enable you to know if you need a job right away, or if you can take some time to find a better job for your career and finances Identify your path and stay focused on what you are seeking Provide time-frames for evaluation and course correction Be consistent in your messaging and communications Properly represent yourself at interviews Consider your job search plan as a project and you are the Project Manager . Managing your job search plan
Prepare: Understand the market and your value in that market Are your skills up-to-date? If not, what can you do to update them to make you more marketable? Engage your references – do they know your current skill set? Can they speak to those skills? Set up your home office with a desk, phone and files Set up a directory/files for your job search Identify all your professional contacts and reach out to them Update your Resume Structure your day to allow for daily searches and communications Identify all the job boards you want to post your Resume in Set up your job alerts for the roles you are seeking Prepared by EBC Services for Overcoming Job Loss (c) 2016

Put your job search plan into place:
Once your home office, records, references, training, and Resume are ready, put your plan into place: Structure time in your calendar daily for job searching Review your job alerts daily When you find an interesting role, research it, assess the company posting the role by visiting their website and searching for them on-line If you have friends or colleagues who work there, ask them about the role and the company Visit your local library to obtain more information on local firms Keep your references and colleagues up-to-date on your search Build new relationships with recruiting/placement firms. Manage and evaluate your plan
Until you find a new role, execute and your evaluate your plan: Be disciplined with your time and activities for job searching Document all jobs applied for, interviews and results Ask for feedback from any recruiters if you were not offered a position after attending interviews Evaluate your job search once a month and make any changes you think you need to keep your plan going Review your job plan with your career coach for helpful feedback Participate in webinars, seminars and any free opportunities to learn about your industry, practices and methods you would like to use in your career If you are registered with Employment Insurance, report your job search and any monies received as required Once you have found your next role, reach out to thank your family and friends, colleagues and references, recruiters and the new employer: this will keep relationships strong and your sincerity will be appreciated by others Prepared by EBC Services for Overcoming Job Loss (c) 2016
