1 Think back to the data from last lesson.
Silent Work 5 minutes Think back to the data from last lesson. What were the different ways residents sourced water? Challenge: Explain which is the most reliable source.

2 4% of the population even drink the river water.
Only 10% of the population have a piped/tap water supply that has been treated and purified. The rest of the population rely on water vendors or dig their own wells or sink boreholes to reach groundwater supplies. 4% of the population even drink the river water. Water in the lagoon is too salty- and polluted!

3 Water Supply and Pollution
Learning Intention What are the problems with Lagos’ water supply? Secure – To be able to describe how Lagos obtains its water supply. Success Criteria Develop – To be able to explain how water pollution affects these supplies. Challenge – To be able to evaluate why sea level rise could be a long- term threat to Lagos.

4 Water Access, a Lagos Luxury?
Take notes during the following video: What is the problem with having boreholes as a water source? What happens when people cannot afford to buy water? What is the current demand and availability of water? What is the estimated cost of the desired water plan? If space place requirement box at bottom of slide if not set to exit animation to remove from slide to give more space.

5 But why is there a water shortage?! Lagos is surrounded by water!
So…what is the problem? What are the consequences? If space place requirement box at bottom of slide if not set to exit animation to remove from slide to give more space.

6 Uncontrolled disposal of raw sewage, rubbish, runoff and effluents from the city and chemical waste pours into the Lagoon system on a daily basis. This has created serious health concerns for the downstream water user groups – mostly those living in squatter settlements and a loss of income for many families. They will know groundwater is water stored in rocks from learning about rivers. 5 mins

7 Secure Develop Challenge
Your main task today… There is a choice of sheets today… Secure Develop Challenge Each sheet has the SAME tasks but with different levels of help available. Some have extra resources. ALL TASKS must be completed on your chosen sheet. If space place requirement box at bottom of slide if not set to exit animation to remove from slide to give more space. Paired Voice 20 minutes

8 Exam Question Explain how the people of Lagos access their water supply and evaluate how safe it is. Water vendors Piped water Public taps Wells or boreholes River Paired Voice 10 minutes

9 Purple Pen of Reflection!
Swap books with the person next to you. Give them a WWW and an EBI on their exam answer with a mark. If space place requirement box at bottom of slide if not set to exit animation to remove from slide to give more space. Requirements Read through your neighbours answer, mark it and give feedback.
