Camerawork The use of camerawork is very important in the horror genre, because they are making the movie more scary with the use of close-up shots and jump scares. Some examples of shot types used in horror movies are: Close-up shots, Extreme close-up shots, Mid-shot, Over the shoulder shot and many more. The shot angles used in horror movies are: Low angle shot, Eye-level, High, sometimes worm eye and bird’s eye. Camera movement is also a very important feature in horror movie. Camera moving techniques like panning shot are used to present the location of the movie, or track shots are used to follow the character why he s being chased by someone or something etc.

Camerawork Camerawork is one of the most important features in a horror movies, because it shows how the characters are feeling, who is chasing them, or it scares the people more. Close up shots are used to show the character’s faces and we can see their expression. In this clip we can see that she is very scared, bleeding and horrified about what happened because she knows that this might be the end of her life. There is a low angle shot used as well in the clip, when the knife falls into the woman’s chest, to show us that now she has no escape and she will die. In this clip there is a use of tracking shot, when the camera follows the character in the house. They are using it in order to make the audience feel like they are following her and showing that he is in the movie. This makes the audience feel scared because it makes it more realistic. Another shot type that are used are panning and tilting. Panning is when the camera is in a still position and it is moving from side to side to scan the scene. Tilt is pretty much the same, but it is moving up and down. Jump scare shot are used to make the audience scared, because they change the shot from one to another suddenly, in order to make them scared.

Editing Editing is the most important feature in a horror movie, because it makes the things more scary by adding CGI, by cutting images and combining them to create jump scares etc. Video editing is important because it is the key to blending images and sounds to make us feel emotionally connected and sometimes truly there in the film we're watching. It's a safe assumption to say that video editing is among the most important jobs in the film industry.

Editing A type of editing that was used in the clip was parallel editing, when the woman was dying and that man was going to her house, and then he went inside to help her. Parallel editing (cross cutting) is the technique of alternating two or more scenes that often happen simultaneously but in different locations. If the scenes are simultaneous, they occasionally culminate in a single place, where the relevant parties confront each other. There is a change in the pace from the beginning to the end. At the beginning the pace is normal, because nothing really important is happening, but after the computer explodes the pace increases. The pace increases to show that something is happening, and to show us how fast everything is happening. After the computer explodes, there are even 3 cuts in one second. Special effects are used in the movie, like when the computer explodes, CGI on the kettle or when the house explodes. Special effects are illusions or visual tricks used in the film, television, theatre, video game and simulator industries to simulate the imagined events in a story or virtual world. Mechanical effects are often incorporated into set design and makeup. Parallel editing ↑ ↓

Mise-en-scene Mise-en-scene is a French word and it literally means settings on scene. Mise-en-scene is about how the scene looks like, the costumes, props, lighting, location. The setting of the scene is in Ms Lewton’s house, and the neighbourhood where the man that tries to save her is walking and realising that something bad is happening. The location is a house to make the audience aware that bad things can happen even in your house, where you usually feel safe. Even if it is a horror movie, the lighting is high key, because she was in her house and she didn’t expect that to happen, and the movie is showing us that something can happen when you least expect. The props are just things that you can find in every house, to show that she was a simple person, like us. Middle to upper class house to relate to the audience and her job. The clothes are normal, nothing fancy or which is symbolising something, just normal clothes that people were wearing in 2000, when the movie was produced.

Sound There types of sound used in this movie are diegetic sound, non diegetic sound and sound effect. Diegetic sound is sound whose source is visible on the screen or whose source is implied to be present by the action of the film: voices of characters. sounds made by objects in the story. music represented as coming from instruments in the story space. Some examples would be when the lady is pouring water in the can, the music on the background, when she is walking in the house, when the computer explodes etc. Non-diegetic sound is sound whose source is neither visible on the screen nor has been implied to be present in the action: narrator's commentary. sound effects which is added for the dramatic effect. mood music. Sound effect is a sound other than speech or music made artificially for use in a play, film, or other broadcast production. An example of sound effects would be: the background scary music which makes us aware that something is going to happen. Diegetic sound Special effects Diegetic sound
