Objectives Access NOAA CLASS website
Navigate through CLASS online website, find JPSS products, and successfully request and obtain them Goal: to successfully obtain Day/Night Band (DNB), I-5 (11.45um) VIIRS data from the Hurricane Harvey event 29 August 2017 between 0-12Z

JPSS data info JPSS-1 data has become NOAA-20 and is placed in the same orbital plane as SNPP JPSS-1 will operate ~ 50 minutes ahead of SNPP SNPP/JPSS data latency into NOAA CLASS is ~ 6 hours Many current SNPP products are available in daily ‘.tar’ files, for the last 90 days. Click link: ftp://ftp-npp.class.ngdc.noaa.gov NOAA-20 data/products undergoing testing (currently, preliminary, non-operational), all data coming to CLASS will be restricted for awhile. Additional questions can be asked via the NOAA CLASS

6
What do data files look like?
For this case scenario, they come in HDF5 file format, but have seen data files in other formats (e.g. NetCDF, .nc files) Comprised of sensor data record file and terrain geo-location file
7
So I have data, but how do I display it?
Free software packages to download, and display polar data McIDAS-V HYDRA
8
Dataset displayed in McIDAS-V
Emitted City Lights Clouds Center of Hurricane Harvey
9
NOAA CLASS video Video below shows how users can access DNB/I-5 data from Hurricane Harvey event.
