2016 – Sport England recognised 33 NGB’s for sport.
Some NGB’s are larger than others
Some NGB’s are financially self sufficient, some rely on subsidies from Sport England and National Lottery

Responsible for the formulation of rules that NGB’s will ensure are followed and applied
Organise international competitions
Arrange sponsorship and tv contracts for international competitions

7. NGB and ISF regulation of rules and Laws
The rules decided by NGB and ISF determine how a sport can be won or lost.
Sports often introduce rules to make them more entertaining for spectators!
Changing rules requires a trial period; once the ISF agrees the rule is appropriate, the change is sanctioned.
In most sports, the regulations are updated regularly.

Competitors are placed into categories of disability that tries to make events fair.
Between Olympics some categories are re- classified to make them even more fair based on competitors performances

some sports – performers are matched or categorized to ensure their opponents are given equal circumstances during competition.
Examples – Paralympic sports – participants with different disabilities are categorized to compete with individuals with similar disabilities.

Domestic and International competitions run frequently but some more frequently than others. Remember we are only concerned with elite level only.

The modern Olympic games are often seen by many as the biggest international sporting event In the world. (more than 200 nations participate)

The Paralympic games – international event for elite athletes with disabilities.
Follow the Olympics every two years.
During both Olympics and Paralympics, the number of entrants are limited within each event through ranking systems.
Competition during the Olympics is heavily regulated to ensure fair competition.

16. World Championships and other tournaments
Some sports hold regular competitions to enable teams and performers from all over the world to compete against each other to determine who is the best
Formats of the competitions vary enormously, including straight knockout competitions and ones that involve mini leagues or group stages before progression to a knockout stage.
