1 Athletics Information for Recruited Varsity Student-Athletes

2 Get ready to go…. What needs to be done BEFORE stepping onto the field
Eligibility Center Register at COMPLETE registration process Must have final transcript sent from all high schools attended Must answer all amateurism questions and request final certification SAT scores must be sent in electronically via Read all s from the EC and follow-up with any concerns or issues that may occur.

3 Medical Paperwork Physical must occur within six months of initial practice. Make sure ALL sections of the physical form are filled out. You may COPY for the health center Medical History Questionnaire must be completed –questions related more to athletic injuries, etc Some teams required to do concussion testing upon arrival prior to practice Insurance Requirement TWO copies of insurance card Signed insurance form Sickle Cell Trait Testing Form Provide result of sickle cell test Decline test **Football and Rugby will do some of this in online system, all others will do the paper version ***these must be completed annually

4 Drug Testing The NCAA conducts random drug testing each year on campus and possibly at championships All Student-Athletes required to submit to testing or lose eligibility ADHD medical exception: MUST provide significant documentation for an exception. Students allowed to participate while taking this medication, BUT should begin to acquire the information needed for an exception.

COACH Is aware of all requirements of student-athletes Will be able to assist with sport-specific issues COMPLIANCE/STUDENT-ATHLETE SUPPORT SERVICES Can help with NCAA questions regarding eligibility, rules, etc Will provide opportunities for leadership, personal development, community service Student can file insurance claim ACADEMIC COORDINATOR Will help with scheduling, academic major specific issues, graduation ATHLETIC TRAINER Can assist with injury and seeing physician

8 Academic Mentoring Incoming AND returning student-athletes based on academic performance AND/OR coaches recommendation Assist with adjustment to college, time management, studying, academic concerns Meet weekly with a graduate level academic mentor Must have a tutor from the LARC Contact between mentor and coach, mentor and professors

New Student-Athlete Orientation HEA 208-Lifeskills for Student-Athletes Student-athlete only course focused on leadership In partnership with the Office of Leadership and Involvement: Emerging Leaders Institute Captains Leadership Advancement Series

12 Student Athlete Advisory Committee SAAC
Representatives from each team Mission: The West Chester University Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) exists as the voice of the student-athletes as a liaison between all teams and administrators, to oversee the welfare of all student athletes, and to promote a positive student athlete image by being involved, communicative and providing service to the community.
