Resources and Trainings
Online Courses Face-To-Face Trainings Videos Webinars Fact Sheets Mini-Posters The ICN has a variety of methods for providing resources and trainings that support professional standards. We currently offer almost one hundred free ONLINE training courses with more topics under development. Face-to-face trainings are presented throughout the country, and a wealth of resources may be accessed through the ICN website.

Identify resources needed Identify and evaluate roles of staff and stakeholders Determine communication strategies Establish goals for continuous quality improvement Guide decision making Establish plan of action Evaluate operational performance Identify practices to implement Establish performance benchmarks The Institute of Child Nutrition Applied Research Division supports the ICN mission by conducting research related to child nutrition operational practices. Increased knowledge, research-based resources, and determination of best practices impact the operation and improvement of Child Nutrition Programs.

The ICN website provides easy access to free training and resources through the Online Course System and the Document Library. In addition, the face-to-face Training Request Form is located under Training Opportunities.

There are several easy methods to access training and resource materials in the Document Library. A search by subject category and perusing the alphabetized list of resources are two of the most popular.

5-day Training—30.5 hrs Meal Pattern/HealthierUS School Challenge Food Production and Operation Management Customer Service and Merchandising Work Place Safety and Emergency Preparedness Financial Management Marketing and Communication Program Accountability and the Role of the School Nutrition Director Special Needs Procurement and Inventory Management USDA Regulations Farm-to-School Human Resources Management The weeklong Orientation to School Nutrition Management training course is the most comprehensive of all ICN courses. It offers training on multiple management topics necessary for the successful operation of School Nutrition Programs.

Practical Skills for Preparing Quality Meals Managing Food Allergies OSNM Lessons MyPlate-Online Training resources are available in each of the four key areas --Nutrition -- Operations -- Administrations --Marketing and Communications. To contribute toward fulfillment of the Nutrition requirements --Nutrition 101 is a basic nutrition course; --Healthy Cuisine for Kids is a hands-on culinary training led by a registered dietitian and a chef; and -- No Time To Train is a series of 34 short lessons for Food Service Technicians/Assistants.

State Agencies 3 or More Smaller School Districts in Collaboration Regional Offices SNA State Affiliates CACFP Sponsors Major City School Districts Allied Organizations Face-to-face training may be requested for presentation in training sites throughout the country. This training is available free-of-charge.
