The view from the Regulator
“..would make the point that everything we ask you to do are things that a well run organisation would wish to do for itself. So you will already be looking at future affordability, you will want to be transparent about your costs and you will be having a mature dialogue with tenants about costs versus service levels.” June 2015 “There is a high level of tenant concern about future rents remaining affordable. This is a key message from the Scottish Housing Regulator’s National Panel of Tenants and Service Users” July 2016 “Later this year we’ll publish further reports looking at homelessness services, anti-social behaviour and value for money.” July 2016 “discuss with tenants the level of service they want” November 2016 Value for Money Why bother?

Value for Money A New Approach
Benchmark activity costs that deliver the performance levels landlords already benchmark in Scotland’s largest network Better dialogue with board members and tenants around service delivery and the cost of that service delivery More meaningful rent consultation process where rent strategy can be linked to service standards and performance, as well as tenant priorities Compare own costs year on year and assess what impact spending or efficiency plans are having on performance levels Work with tenants to improve financial scrutiny, in keeping with the Charter Value for Money A New Approach
