to narrate the parable of the good Samaritan to identify who is our neighbour to describe ways in which our neighbour could be helped

6 The story answers a question…
There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test Jesus and said, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?

7 Answering the question...
He said in reply, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbour as yourself.” Jesus replied to him, “You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.”

8 … here we go … But because the scholar wanted to prove himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbour? Jesus replied …

9 There was once a man traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho.
On the way he was attacked by robbers.

10 They stripped him of his clothes and money, beat him, and left him half dead beside the road.

11 Luckily, a priest happened to be going down the same road,
but when he saw the man lying there, he crossed to the other side of the road and passed him by.

12 Next a Levite (Temple assistant) saw him lying there,
but he also passed by on the other side.

13 Then a Samaritan came along,
When he saw the man's condition, he was moved with compassion and helped him.

14 Kneeling beside him, the Samaritan cleaned his wounds and bandaged them. Then he lifted him onto his donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him.

15 In the morning he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper.
"Take good care of him “ he said. "If it costs any more, put it on my bill -- I'll pay you on my way back ."
