What type of climate is needed to grow this? If this crop can be grown and sold for money in a specific part of the country, what does it mean for other parts of the country?

4 Facts about the 13 Colonies
13 Colonies were on the East Coast of the present day United States. The 13 Colonies contained 3 distinct regions. Region is a specific area with unique traits from another Middle Colonies Southern Colonies New England Colonies

5 How to Read an Historical Map
Step 1: Look for and read the title. Step 2: Step 3: Identify what the map shows Step 3: Identify the date Step 4: Look for an read what is on the chart (Key). Step 5: Make connections or inferences between what’s in the chart and on the map. Step 6: Answer the map questions.

6 Guided Practice Southern Colonies
Use the map to answer the questions on the graphic organizer: Which states made up the 5 Southern Colonies in 1750? Which crop did Virginia produce the most? Why did the Southern Colonies produce the crops listed in the chart at left?

7 Independent Task Directions
Complete the next 2 sides of the graphic organizer (Middle and New England Colonies), using the next 2 slides. Turn in your graphic organizer to the white bin on my desk when you are done.

8 Middle Colonies Use the map to answer the questions on the graphic organizer: Which states made up the 4 Middle Colonies in 1750? Which crops did the Pennsylvania Colony produce? Inference: Why do you think the New York Colony hunted beavers?

9 New England Colonies Use the map to answer the questions on the graphic organizer: Which states made up the 5 New England Colonies in 1750? What type of climate existed in the New England Colonies? Inference: Why do you think the New England Colonies didn’t grow many crops like the Southern Colonies did?
