1. Readers’ League

2. In an effort to encourage reading for pleasure, we are implementing the readers’ league in our class. Students are asked to read each night and log the reading. Parents simply sign off verifying the student’s time and log. Each week, students will show the teacher the logs and will be recognized for their efforts for at least 60 minutes of reading time. In the classroom, we have a board designated to celebrate their achievements. Thanks in advance for everything you do!

Below, I have included a few statistics and their sources about readers and learners. These statistics prove how important reading is to success. Also added are celebrities who are role models for our youth.

Between 46 and 51% of American adults have an income well below the poverty level because of their inability to read (
60 percent of America's prison inmates are illiterate and 85% of all juvenile offenders have reading problems.
